The fine print, in plain words
Disclaimer, terms & privacy
Not a law firm
LockoutCase is a self-help tool that drafts documents from your own answers. It is not a law firm, is not staffed by lawyers, and is not a substitute for the advice of an attorney. Nothing here creates a lawyer–client relationship. The guides are general information, checked on the dates shown, and laws, court rules and Meta’s terms change. Outcomes vary; we do not promise that any route will get your account back or win money.
LockoutCase is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Meta Platforms, Inc. Facebook and Instagram are trademarks of Meta.
Never pay to “recover” an account
Nobody needs your password or a login code to help you. The BBB warns never to pay to recover a social-media account (BBB scam alert).
Terms of use
- The letters, plans and case files are self-help templates built from what you type. You edit them, you decide whether to send or file anything, and you are responsible for what you send. Nobody at LockoutCase reads or reviews your documents.
- The route plan is general information matched to the boxes you tick. It is not advice about your particular situation. For that, talk to an attorney licensed where you live (your state bar’s lawyer referral service is a good start) or, in the EU and UK, a qualified legal adviser.
- We check facts against official sources on the dates shown, but courts, regulators and platforms change their rules. Confirm fees, limits and deadlines with the court or authority before you rely on them.
- LockoutCase is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses caused by relying on it.
Your data
- Quiz answers, letter details, evidence entries and deadlines are saved only in your browser’s local storage, and screenshots in its IndexedDB storage. They are not sent to us. The “Wipe everything” button on the evidence page deletes them from this device.
- Your analytics choice is remembered in local storage (
lc:consent), and your light or dark theme undertheme. - Analytics (PostHog, EU region) load only after you click “Allow”; before that no PostHog code runs. If you allow them, PostHog stores an identifier in your browser and we record page views, clicks on links and buttons, which tools are used, which menu options are picked (for example region, platform or state, never what you type), errors and page speed. For about one visit in ten, a session replay is recorded with every form field and your letter, plan and evidence text masked. “No thanks” keeps analytics off.
- The only thing we store on a server is the email you give us if you reserve LockoutCase Pro (see below).
- Cloudflare hosts the site and the reservation database. Apart from Cloudflare, PostHog is the only third-party service that receives data, and only after you allow it. There are no accounts and no ads.
Pro reservations (email sign-ups)
- What we store: your email address, the folder you picked (Pro or Business), the page you signed up on, the date, and which version of this note you agreed to.
- Why: to send you one email when LockoutCase Pro opens, and to count how many people want it. No newsletter, no selling or sharing your email, no ads.
- Legal basis: your consent, given by ticking the box on the Pro page. You can withdraw it at any time.
- Where: a Cloudflare D1 database in Cloudflare’s Western Europe region. Cloudflare processes it for us as a service provider.
- Abuse protection: to stop spam we count requests per IP address per hour. We store only a salted, one-way hash of the IP address, never the address itself, and delete the counts within 24 hours.
- How long: until you ask us to delete it, or at most 12 months after the launch email, whichever comes first.
- Your rights: to see, correct or delete your email, or to withdraw consent, write to contact@lockoutcase.com from that address. You can also complain to your data protection authority.
Pre-orders and payments
- LockoutCase Pro is not built yet. Reserving is free and nothing is charged. No card is asked for, and reserving does not oblige you to buy.
- The reserved prices are $49 one-off for Pro (one case) and $149 one-off for Business (up to 5 cases). If you buy when Pro opens, you pay the price you reserved.
- The site does not take real payments yet. If that changes, these terms will say so first, including refunds.
- Pro is a self-help tool, like the free kit. It does not include legal advice and cannot promise your account back or a result in court.
